It is with a heavy heart that we have to bring one of the most crushing news : our friend and arguably one of the most talented Belly Dance and Fusion performers in the United States just had a scorching brush with death.
Samantha Diaz, who has delighted us with her passionate performances year after year, is currently in NY Presbyterian hospital Intensive Care Unit. 38% of her body has suffered a 3rd degree burn after an accident with a fire prop last December.
In her fight for her life and path to recovery, she will be facing a year of recovery, slowly stretching the newly applied skin to achieve full mobility.
This painful and grueling process will take a year. That is, a year without work, a year without income. We are all dancers here and we all know how crucial our bodies are for us. We have no other instrument to replace them.
Samantha is lucky she has survived. At her second chance at life, let us all come together and help her with whatever we can, so that her mind and heart are focused on recovering and not busy worried about paying bills.
